Welcome to another edition of your favourite AI Weekly Summary!
I know I’m a bit late in sending this one… but sometimes life gets in the way and I’m only human, AI doesn’t write this newsletter!
Anyway, let’s not delay the good stuff with excuses.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve probably heard about OpenAI’s drama unfolding after the board decided to fire their CEO, Sam Altman.
But the drama is far from over, plus there have been some other interesting moves made by the other big players… so let’s take a look at last week’s events.
Here’s what’s in store for you today:
OpenAI Board Fires CEO Sam Altman, Not Without Controversy
OpenAI Advances with GPT-5 Development

OpenAI Board Fires CEO Sam Altman, Not Without Controversy
OpenAI's board fired CEO Sam Altman, a decision that shocked everyone across the tech industry, and probably the whole world.
Sam Altman’s lack of transparency in his communication with the board, led to that decision. Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer, stepped in as interim CEO.
However, recent developments indicate potential discussions about Altman's return. The board reportedly considered reinstating him after a few people resigned and more threatened to do the same. Altman was scheduled to meet with board members at OpenAI's headquarters and board chair Greg Brockman, who resigned after Altman's ousting, was also invited to the meeting.
It’s certainly a complex and evolving situation at OpenAI. The next hours are going to be critical for the future of OpenAI. Get your pop corn ready!

OpenAI Advances with GPT-5 Development
Despite the drama in HQ, OpenAI is progressing with the development of GPT-5, intending to enhance the capabilities of their AI models beyond the current GPT-4.
Plans were revealed to raise more capital, particularly from Microsoft, to support the development of the new model.
After showcasing the new customization options for GPT-4 and other features at OpenAI’s first annual developer conference, the intention is very clear to me: constant development and delivery of unstoppable innovation.

NVIDIA Revamps Hopper and Plans China Chip Release
NVIDIA keeps revolutionising AI and this time they’re doing it with the introduction of the NVIDIA HGX™ H200, based on the Hopper™ architecture. This new chip dramatically enhances data processing at a much higher speed.
At the same time, NVIDIA has announced its plans to release three new chips in China. It looks like they don’t want to miss the huge slice of the pie if they don’t adapt these chips to the restrictions imposed by the US Government.
I guess they want to remain the world’s #1 chip provider, right?

Google Postpones Gemini AI Until 2024
Google has delayed the release of its highly anticipated Gemini AI model to the first quarter of 2024, a significant deviation from its original launch plan in November 2023.
The goal is unsurprisingly to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4. Gemini is expected to offer capabilities such as content creation, summarizing texts, coding, and drafting emails.
It will definitely require a bit more than that if they want to compete with GPT-4, and they’d better start thinking about Gemini 2 if they want to compete with GPT-5!
